In 2012, Pittsburgh artist Ed Eberle relocated his studio from Millvale to a former Elks Lodge in the historic Homestead, PA, which would later become Eberle Studios. With a career spanning over 50 years, Eberle worked in a variety of media, including painting, printmaking, sculpture, mixed media, and installations, but most recognizably with ceramics.
Eberle’s porcelain vessels and abstract sculptures feature wheel thrown geometric shapes, and detailed figurative painting with terra sigillata onto porcelain vessels and sculptures. Ed Eberle is one of the region’s most prolific artists, with collections in over thirty museums and numerous private collections worldwide.
To further Ed’s legacy in fine art ceramics, Eberle Studios’ mission was born:
“To support regional art and artists, with an emphasis for fine art ceramics”
In 2018, Eberle Studios was a featured venue for the NCECA Conference in Pittsburgh. Stemming from fantastic community engagement, the Eberle family continued to open the gallery for exhibitions and shared studio workspaces for artists throughout the region and beyond.
Ed Eberle, who started his career teaching at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and Carnegie Mellon University, has a following of students and studio assistants who now have their own careers. “Artists, especially with ceramics, really do take care of each other,” says Ed, “Eberle Studios is about continuing that tradition in ceramics and fine art.”
